Abstract: 

Hyland’s Model was the first framework to examine interaction between writer and reader of a text under two key concepts, namely, stance and engagement. According to this model, any writer (un)consciously employs a number of linguistic devices such as hedges, boosters, attitude markers, and self-references to present his or her stance over a topic, and likewise uses some other devices like reader pronoun, imperatives, interrogatives, shared knowledge as well as personal asides to establish reader’s engagement. In this study, a number of book reviews on Persian literary books have been analyzed based on the model proposed by Hyland (2005). The corpus of study includes 100 book reviews; 50 reviews are selected from academic, refereed journals and 50 ones are taken from general journals. When the corpus was prepared, the linguistic devices of stance and engagement were identified, extracted, and counted. The findings showed that for each 11.7 words of the corpus, one word or expression of stance or engagement has been used. The negative attitude markers and imperatives are respectively the most and least frequent devices. It is shown that book review articles, printed in academic journals, tend to be more critical, and, furthermore, the articles published in the 2000s put much more weight on attitude markers. It is also shown that the density of interaction markers is higher in the ending section of book reviews. Taking the gender variable into account, it is revealed that male critics are more explicit in presenting their stance, while female critics are more willing to use engagement devices.

Abstract: 

Lexical bundles are recurrent multi-word sequences that play a crucial role in academic discourse. This article presents an analysis of lexical bundles in book reviews across the disciplines of human and natural sciences. Drawing from a corpus of 737 book reviews, the study investigates the functional roles and structural patterns of these recurrent linguistic units. The research aims to bridge a gap in the literature by exploring how lexical bundles vary across disciplines. Employing a quantitative-qualitative approach, the study first quantitatively identifies the most common 4-word lexical bundles and compares their distribution between the two disciplines. The researchers then qualitatively analyzed the context in which these bundles are used, observing that they often serve to refer to or evaluate the structure, content, audience, or scope of the book under review. Findings reveal that while both human and natural sciences book reviews share some lexical bundles, they exhibit variations in their distribution, structures, and functions. Notably, natural sciences book reviews employ a greater frequency of lexical bundles signaling an evaluative context, particularly contexts related to the assessment of a book. The study also uncovers differences in the structural preferences of lexical bundles between the two disciplines. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the genre-specific utilization of lexical bundles and underscores their role in conveying evaluative meaning in scholarly discourse. Furthermore, the study suggests avenues for further exploration, providing a foundation for future investigations into the intricate interplay between linguistic features and disciplinary preferences.

Abstract: 

Book Review, which is a form of literary criticism that evaluates a book based on the content, methodology, and goodness and badness of it. Usually, book reviews are according to the critic' s opinion. In most cases, a review is based on the critical analysis of critics. The critics may consider the effects of different factors such as the reputation and credibility of the author, thematic analysis of writing, text, method of processing, reliability and value of the references, approaches, and methods of writing chapters, validity and invalidity of meanings, universality of the text and so on. The authors of this paper have criticized and analyzed the books that have explained Saeb's poetries. Because of the efforts of poets in the Indian style, that Saeb is the best representative of it, for finding new ideas and different contents and crating relationships between tangible and intangible phenomena, this style is a complex one. Hence, his poetry needs to be analyzed and explained accurately. For this need, several authors have written some books and have tried to analyze and explain his poetries. In this paper, we have analyzed and criticized these books regarding the validity of authors' thematic analysis of writing, text, method of processing, reliability and value of the references, approaches, methods of writing chapters, validity and invalidity of meanings, universality of the text and so on.

Abstract: 

This review addresses the structure and the content of the book. With regard to the structure, items such as the title, features such as book cover and cut, writing style, and typographical issues are examined. Then the author is introduced and the preface of the book is commented on. With regard to the content, previous works are introduced and purpose for authoring the present book are discussed. In terms of appearance, clear goals, good typography and good language are the merits of the work. However, the back cover, the preface, the introduction, and the table of contents are not well-organized. The strengths of the content include good order, coherence, and scientific neutrality. Weaknesses include, but not limited to the lack novelty, absence of analysis, and failing to provide descriptions for materials introduced. The review concludes that weaknesses of the work outweigh its strengths.

Abstract: 

Purpose: A book review is significant because besides being used by librarians in libraries and information centers to select books. It also helps readers and researchers inform about new books that its least advantage is saving time and careful selection. The effectiveness of new knowledge requires an application— generating knowledge alone and without using previous knowledge cannot achieve its objective, which is to increase awareness. The book review is a way to make the works known and provide proper awareness for society. Regarding the importance of book reviews and the applications of scientometrics in identifying the subject of research and considering that the initial studies of researchers show that there are few studies on analyzing book reviews on the WoS at the global level and specifically in Iran, this research was done to review and analyze “book reviews” indexed in the WoS databases, focusing on the activities of Iranian researchers, and through a comparative study of the situation in Iran with other countries in the world. Methodology: The research adopted a descriptive-analytical survey method and a scientometrics approach. The population consists of all book reviews in 10 years (2010-2019) indexed in the Web of Science databases. To limit publications to book reviews, the book review option was selected. Based on this, 766, 100 records were retrieved, which formed the current research population. To analyze the research data, Excel and VOSViewer were employed to draw the map to achieve coherent and clear networks. Findings: The research showed that in the ten years from 2010 to 2019, book reviews covered approximately 3% of the total scientific production in the world and about 0. 1% of Iranian documents. The results on Iran’s position in book review demonstrated the rank 47th in the world: in Iran, the book reviews growth rate is 0. 07. The study of book reviews by subject in the world based on the 22 subjects of the ESI database showed that the interdisciplinary field is in the first rank, the field of psychiatry and psychology is in the second rank, and the social/general sciences are ranked the third. The findings showed that management, libraries, information retrieval, and librarians, which are part of the interdisciplinary fields, are hot and widely used topics. But in Iran, topics of gender, identity, evolution, capitalism, and ethics are the hot topics of book reviews. In the international arena and management, libraries, information retrieval, and librarians are the hot topics of a book review. This shows that the more specific issues of book review in the world and Iran have different directions and the trend in Iran is not in line with the global trend. Conclusion: Book review publications have a lower growth rate than entire publications. Based on the subject map, the book review topics are different in the world and Iran. The collaborative coefficient of Iranian authors shows that co-authorship in book reviews is not favorable. According to the pattern of co-authorship of book reviews by Iranian researchers, the coefficient of participation of authors in these articles is 0. 092, which shows that a person individually has mostly written book reviews in Iran and there is less the researchers’ willingness to participate.

Abstract: 

The purpose of this research is to evaluate, criticize, and analyze the book in the field of teaching. The analytical method is used in book evaluation. The first example of the book Teaching and Learning Skills (Teaching Methods and Techniques) is the first volume by Hassan Shaabani. The textbook has been studied based on the content and format of academic textbook critique, textbook review, and humanities textbook review. Based on the research findings, this book has some advantages and disadvantages such as the introduction of goals and objectives at the beginning of each chapter, the use of tables and diagrams, the presentation of conceptual models at the beginning of each chapter, students’ professional needs, as well as shortcomings and weaknesses such as lacking a persuasive educational model, lack of new scientific findings, inadequate presentation, lack of motivational and critical thinking questions, and repeated disruption of some book topics with other related lessons. The other shortcomings include how to cite, overlooking new sources, adjust abstract, volume, and book cover design which are inappropriate to reduce book productivity and efficiency for the audience.

زمینه و هدف: اقدامات مختلفی برای افزایش تجارب یادگیری دانشجویان پزشکی انجام شده زیرا در دوره کارآموزی زمان قابل توجهی را در حالات مختلف بالینی صرف می کنند که در معرض تجارب یادگیری سازمان دهی نشده ای قرار می گیرند. تاثیر این تجارب زیر سوال است. اقدامات آموزشی برای افزایش تاثیر آموزش دوره کارآموزی می تواند شامل تعیین اهداف یادگیری استفاده ازLog book  و نظارت و ارایه فیدبک باشد. برای اینکه Log book ها واقعا موثر باشند باید آنها به عنوان بخشی از نظارت همیشگی در آیند. بنابر این درمطالعه فعلی ما استفاده از Log book بر اساس ارتقا کیفیت آموزش بالینی در گروه ENT را مد نظر قرار دادیم که هر مداخله شامل تعیین اهداف آموزشی، شناسنامه درس، میزان دستیابی به سرفصل های آموزشی مصوب و فیدبک را در خود جای داده است.روش و ابزار:Log book  در پنج بخش طراحی شده، اول شناسنامه درس دوم جدول زمان بندی ارایه کارآموزی سوم جدول حداقل توانمندیهای انتظار گروه دانشی و عملکردی چهارم چک لیست بررسی میزان دستیابی به حداقل های آموزشی کارآموز دانشی و عملکردی پنجم پیشنهادات و انتقادات کارآموز. در این طرح Log book در یک دوره شش ماهه گروه ENT برای دانشجویان پزشکی مقطع بالینی (کارآموزان) به کار برده شد. در ابتدای هر دوره  Log book توسط مسوول مربوطه در اختیار دانشجویان قرار می گرفت و دانشجویان در زمینه استفاده و تکمیل آن توجیه می شدند دانشجویان موظف به تکمیل آن و تحویل آن در پایان دوره می بودند در ضمن دو نمره از امتحان عملی به تکمیل  Log bookاختصاص یافته بود سپس داده ها با نرم افزار spss  آنالیز و با میزان دستیابی مورد نظر گروه مقایسه و نتایج در اختیار مسوولین گروه قرار می گرفت.نتایج: آنالیز شش ماهه  Log bookدر بخش ENT در حیطه دانشی به ترتیب میزان دستیابی واقعی و میزان دستیابی مورد نظر گروه در بالاترین درصد مربوط به آنژین های شایع  %100-%67و کمترین درصد بیماریهای التهابی حنجره %90-%66 بوده است و در حیطه عملکردی بالاترین درصد برای معاینه با اتوسکوپ 61%-100% و کمترین درصد شستشوی گوش 45%-90 % بوده است.نتیجه گیری: وقتی میتوان از کیفیت آموزشی صحبت کرد که اهداف را مشخص و سپس میزان دستیابی به آنها را تعیین نمود. با استفاده از نتایج این پژوهش مشخص شد که در حیطه دانشی و حیطه عملکردی در حدود 30%-45% با میزان واقعی تفاوت وجود داشته است که نشان دهنده ضعف آموزش در بخشهای بالینی درحیطه عملکردی (clinical skill) و حیطه دانشی می باشد پس نیاز به مداخلاتی از جمله استفاده از دستیاران در امر آموزش، آموزش عملی بیشتر در CSLC برروی مولاژ و استفاده از فیلم های آموزشی، برقراری کشیک آموزشی برای کارآموزان استفاده از امتحانات OSCE در حیطه عملکردی و بالا بردن کیفیت آموزش در حیطه دانشی می باشد.

Abstract: 

The purpose of this study was to criticize the book “ Instructional Models for Physical Education” . The research method of critical philosophical exploration and society was the study of the content and structure of the book. National Criticism Questionnaire was used as a tool and framework for the critique. The book has 693 pages, two parts, and 15 chapters. The findings of the review were presented in two dimensions: description and interpretation of the form and content of the work. The points regarding the form analysis include layout, literary editing, full ID, and good quality prints. Some content scores include content in sections and chapters, content matching with the headlines of some academic lessons, expanding the idea of designing and implementing physical education lessons’ shapes such as low charm, large numbers book pages. Content failures encompass duplication of content, relative neglect to refer to existing scientific theories, lack of mentioning the integration patterns, the problem of teaching a book during a semester for a two-unit lesson, moderate and weak equation of specialized terminology, and uncertainty to translate book. According to the teacher’ s guide books, this book is not recommended to Iranian Physical education teachers.
